Staff
Professional development in both child development and age-appropriate curriculum development, as well as behavior management, professional communication and team building are all part of what makes Open Door™ staff exceptional.
About our Staff
Open Door™ recognizes that staff are our greatest resource. To work with children effectively, staff skills are needed in both child development and curriculum development. Across the school age years, the developmental needs of children, socially, intellectually, emotionally, and physically, vary tremendously. Available activities must reflect the different stages of development, as well as opportunities for group or individual, and quiet or active play. Effective staff should be comfortable with the breadth of variation in children’s needs, and be competent in guiding children when needed. Professional development in both child development and curriculum development, as well as behavior management, professional communication and team building are all part of what makes Open Door staff exceptional.
In the field of after-school care, staff retention is a challenge. Ideally for children, the same staff return year after year. With a part time employment pool, compiling a benefit package that facilitates retention is key. Open Door offers:
- participation in a pension plan
- health benefits
- paid holidays
- paid personal days including a bonus paid birthday
- paid time for staff development
- tuition reimbursement for college students
- free child care for the children of staff
Staff retention offers children the opportunity to bond with staff, enhancing a sense of security for children.
