The Open Door School Age Child Care Program offers a nurturing and stimulating environment for students. Founded in 1983 to address the need for affordable, quality before and after school care, Open Door stands strong, retaining school age care as its singular focus. With 25 years of providing services to children, Open Door now has 36 sites with over 2200 children in care. Open Door is cognizant of the role of extended day programming in the family, the school community, and each child's growth and development. Nurturing each child, and cultivating academic, social, and lifelong success is our focus.
School age children spend six and a half hours in the structure of an academic setting. As youngsters, they need the opportunity for socialization, active outdoor play, team building activities, development of creativity and fine motor skills, and practice in their school work. Choices are the core of Open Door's programming, to best meet the needs of the students in a before and after school setting. Nutritious breakfast and an after school snack make transitions from Open Door to school and from school to Open Door seamless for children.
Choices for children are the core of Open Door programming. After the structure of the school day, children may need active outdoor activity, or a quiet game with a small group, or space to work a puzzle alone. Different experiences during the day will impact which kind of activity is most suited to facilitate relaxation on any given day. Choices, therefore, are key to meeting the needs of each child.
Activity Centers available every day for both age groups, kindergarten through 2nd grade, and third through fifth grade, include:

Wash Your Car
Did you know that automatic car washes use less than half the water used when washing your car at home, according to the International Car Wash Association. The average home wash uses 80-140 gallons of water while the commercial average is 45 gallons. If you do wash your car at home, here’s how to keep the impact at a minimum:
* Park on gravel or grass so soapy water soaks into the ground, becomes filtered and recharges groundwater.
* Avoid soaps with labels that say “harmful, danger or poison.”
* Turn off the hose when you’re not using the water. During a 15-minute car wash, you could use 150 gallons of water if there isn’t an automatic shut-off nozzle.
